Armenians of Zakho celebrated St. Sarkis Day and Tyarndarach holiday

On February 11, the newly created Social Committee of the St. Mary’s Church in Zakho held a family dance devoted to St. Sarkis Day at the local Shirak Hall.

As reported pastor of the St. Mary’s Church, Fr. Priest Mambre Hmayakyan to Hayern Aysor, leaflets about the line of conduct of St. Sarkis had been prepared and previously placed on the tables. During the event, there were questions from that leaflet, and those who gave the right answers received gifts. A group of children performed a previously choreographed Armenian folk dance.

On February 13, an Evening Liturgy and the ceremony ahead of Tyarndarach holiday were performed at the St. Mary’s Church, followed by the blessing of newlyweds, who received gifts from the District Council of the St. Mary’s Church.

The ceremonies ended with the traditional Tyarndarach bonfire lit in the churchyard.
