Spanish film director’s film “The Shadow of Ararat” shown in Madrid

Spanish film director and journalist Miguel Ángel Nieto’s documentary film “The Shadow of Ararat” has already gained the sympathy of Spanish audiences.

Only 30 percent of Armenians live in Armenia, and the remaining 70 percent live beyond the borders of the historic homeland. There are many famous people among the Armenians scattered across the globe, but few people know about their Armenian descent, writes Madridpress.

The heroes of the documentary film are public, political and cultural figures of Armenian descent, including Charles Aznavour, singer Rosy Armen, violinist Ara Malikian, musician Arto Tunçboyacıyan and pilot Ruben Yesayan. Among other figures are astrophysicist Garik Israelian, film director Robert Gedikian, businessmen David Yang and Ruben Vardanyan, explorer Artur Chilingarov, historian Hayk Demoyan, Professor Claude Mutafian, famous chef Armen Petrosyan, former President of Lebanon Émile Lahoud, Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and others, reported Sputnik-Արմենիա.”

The film is not about the Armenian Genocide or the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but the consequences of the tragic events that have taken place throughout the history of the Armenian people. The film is also about the beautiful landscapes and tasty cuisine in Armenia. The whole panorama of Armenia is presented through heroes, that is, world famous Armenians.

The film “The Shadow of Ararat” is devoted to the history of a nation, a small Christian isle that neither time nor tragedy broke down. Armenia is the only country that existed on the map 5,000 years ago and still exists, writes the Spanish periodical.

“We know many countries that have existed along with Armenia in ancient times such as the Mediterranean, but today, unlike Armenia, there is no such country,” writes the Spanish periodical.

The idea of the project was born in the spring of 2015 when the film’s director met with a millionaire and benefactor of Armenian descent at a hotel in Moscow. The benefactor suggested that the film director produce a film devoted to Armenia, but wished to remain anonymous. Thus, he is not known to the public at large.

Shootings began in the fall of 2015 and were held in Armenia, Spain, Turkey, France, Lebanon, Russia and Israel.
