Armenian Schools: The Sunday School of Astana
The role of Armenian schools in the Diaspora is invaluable when it comes to patriotic act of teaching the Armenian youth its mother tongue and acquainting it with its national roots, culture and history. This is the greatest mission of undertaken voluntarily by patriotic and nationalist activist in the Diaspora.
“Hayern Aysor” is offering a glimpse into the day-to-day Sunday school that operates adjacent to the “Van” Armenian cultural center in the city of Astana, Kazakhstan.
The school has two classes – senior and junior. The topics taught are Armenian language, history and culture. The school has a dance group. The teacher is Hayasdan Mneyan, who is everything she can to awaken love and interest in the children toward their mother tongue and Armenian culture.
