Russia’s State Duma ratifies unified air defense deal with Armenia

Russia’s State Duma adopted the bill on December 14 on ratifying the agreement of creating a regional air defense system in the Caucasian region of the collective security between Russia and Armenia. The document had been presented to the Russian Parliament’s lower house to discussion by President Vladimir Putin. The agreement was signed on December 23, 2015 in Moscow.
Under the document, it is planned to “create a unified air defense system: as a component of the unified air defense system of CIS member states”. “Armenia has always been our partner and ally in the Caucasian region. The ratification of the document is in line with Russia’s state interests”, Leonid Kalashnikov, chairman of the Duma’s committee of CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Compatriots Affairs said.
