Turkey appoints new ambassador to Germany

After a long interval, Turkey has appointed a new ambassador to Germany. The Turkish Hurriyet writes that Ali Kemal Aydin is assuming the office of ambassador in a difficult period for Turkish-German relations.

Hurriyet reminds that Turkish-German relations were intensified after the German Bundestag’s June 2 adoption of the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, as a result of which Turkey recalled its ambassador to Berlin Husein Avni Karslioglu, and the relations were at the level of a Charge d’Affaires, writes ermenihaber.am.

The German Bundestag’s decision was followed by the crisis at the NATO military base in Injirlik where Turkish authorities were prohibiting German MPs from visiting German servicemen.

Germany’s position on and criticism of the interior political events that took place in Turkey following the July 15 military coup attempt and the apprehension of the journalists of Cumhuriyet and the deputies representing the pro-Kurdish Democratic Party of Nations further intensified the bilateral relations.

“The new ambassador is expected to normalize the tense relations between the two countries and get them back on track in a short period of time,” hopes the Turkish newspaper.
