Armenian Culture Days in Egypt

On 12-15 November, the Arab Republic of Egypt hosted Armenian Culture Days, the official opening of which was held with a concert featuring performances by Armenia’s State Dance Ensemble and Shoghakn Ensemble at Gomhoria Hall of the Opera House in Cairo, as reported the RA Ministry of Culture.

Concerts were also held in the Egyptian cities of Alexandria and Damanhur and were accompanied by weeklong screenings of Armenian films.

The Armenian delegation was led by RA Deputy Minister of Culture Nerses Ter-Vardanyan. In Cairo, Ter-Vardanyan met with Minister of Culture of Egypt Helmi al-Namnam, Minister of Tourism Yehia Rashid and General Secretary of the Council for Antiquities Mustafa Amin Mustafa. Issues related to joint film production, literary translations, the digitization of libraries, educational programs at museums, archaeological excavations and cooperation in other sectors were discussed during the meeting.

The Armenian delegation also visited the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church and the Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Cairo. During the visit, the RA Embassy in Egypt received books published upon state order and with the support of the government over the past years in order to provide them to the members of the Egyptian-Armenian community.
