Yerevan to host session of CSTO Collective Security Council

On October 14, Yerevan will host the session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which will be moderated by President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. The Republic of Armenia has assumed chairmanship of the CSTO Collective Security Council for the period between 2015 and 2016, as reported the press service of the RA President to Hayern Aysor.
The process of implementation of the decisions taken during the CSTO summits held last year and the priorities that the Republic of Armenia has proposed during its chairmanship will be discussed during the session.
Within the scope of the twenty issues included in the agenda for the session, the participants will discuss the state of affairs in the world and the current issues on ensuring collective security, observe the drafts of decisions on the development of the CSTO Collective Security Strategy and the creation of a CSTO Crisis Reaction Center before 2026, as well as the improvement of the activities of the CSTO and the implementation of decisions on counterinfluence against international terrorism.
Several political declarations will be adopted.
Taking into consideration the fact that the Republic of Belarus will be assuming the chairmanship of the CSTO for the years 2016-2017, President Alexander Lukashenko will introduce the Collective Security Council to the priorities of Belarus that are envisaged to be implemented during its chairmanship, that is, in the next period in-between sessions.
The agenda of the Collective Security Council also includes the signing of documents on further enhancement of the military component of the Organization, the training of military specialists and the development of the CSTO member states’ system for reaction to emergency situations.
During the session, the heads of CSTO member states will also make a decision over the CSTO Secretary General.
