Armenian PM says IT sector can become a driving force for Armenia’s advancement

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan today received members of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) and the Union of Information and Communication Technology Employers (UICTE), as reported the press service of the RA Government to Hayern Aysor.

Attaching importance to the potential for development of the IT sector, the Prime Minister stated that he expected to listen to the participants of the meeting talk about the steps that will promote not only the creation of competitive IT products, but also the implementation of long-term and effective projects.

The members of the UITE and the UICTE introduced Karen Karapetyan to their current projects and field-related issues and made proposals. In particular, they discussed issues on the organizing of courses on vocational education and entrepreneurship at general education schools and higher educational institutions of Yerevan and Armenia’s provinces, the actions of engineering clubs, the creation of a technology university, issues related to the legislation regulating the sector and other related issues.

The head of government attached special importance to the advancement of the system of technological education, stating that it is necessary to pay special attention to the access to education and the preparation of specialists in the provinces. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the IT sector for the growth of various branches of economy and stated that the sector could become a driving force and become an effective resource for Armenia’s advancement. Karen Karapetyan urged the representatives of the IT sector to submit their ideas and proposals to stakeholder government agencies and assigned the corresponding ministers to engage in active cooperation with the representatives.
