Renovated mausoleum of famous Balyan family of architects to reopen in Istanbul on 1 October

October 1st will mark the reopening of the renovated mausoleum of the Balyan family, which was one of the most famous families of architects in the Ottoman Empire, writes arkitera.com, according to Tert.am.
Located near the Saint Karapet Armenian Cemetery of Istanbul, the mausoleum was renovated with the direct support of the Istanbul-based Union of Armenian Architects and Hrach and Hagop Kirmizian.
The Balyans, who were originally from Kesaria, were one of the most famous families of architects in the Ottoman era and built most of the most famous palaces and mosques of Istanbul. However, the Turks avoid speaking about the Armenian descent of the Balyans. Tour guides escorting tourists often refer to the Balyans as the Italian “Baliani” family.
