Pope Francis will visit Azerbaijan on October 2.

Along the lines of his second apostolic visit to the Caucasus, the Pontiff will arrive in capital city Baku on the morning of October 2, according to Haqqin.az news agency of the country.

The Bishop of Rome will celebrate a Holy Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

After lunch, the Pope will meet with President Ilham Aliyev.

The Holy Father is also scheduled to visit to the monument to those who died in the struggle for independence.

His Holiness, however, is not expected to pay a visit to the “Khojaly genocide” memorial.

The Pontiff will also meet with Allahshukur Pashazadeh, chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Board; and with the representatives of other religious communities in Azerbaijan.

Pope Francis will return to Rome on the same evening.
