RA MFA: “The only format with the international mandate for settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship”

The only format with the international mandate for settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.

Azerbaijan’s regular attempts to move the process of settlement out of that format only undermine and cause a blow to the peaceful process of negotiations over the conflict. This is what Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan declared, touching upon “Armenpress”’s question on the inclusion of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in the agenda for the 71st Sitting of the UN General Assembly. “And this is not only Armenia’s opinion, but also the position of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries that they have expressed several times at different levels,” the Deputy Foreign Minister said.

According to him, resolutions under the point on the agenda of the UN General Assembly with the title “The Situation in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan” have been adopted twice-on 7 September 2006 and on 25 April 2008 (Resolutions 60/285 and 62/243, respectively). After that, since 2009, that homonymous point has been kept on the agenda of the GA, but no resolution has been submitted or adopted, respectively.

That point will be kept on the agenda of the 71st Sitting of the UN General Assembly as well. “The Armenian delegation traditionally gives a speech that is different from Azerbaijan’s proposal, and another speech will be given during the approval of the agenda during the launch of this sitting as well,” Kocharyan emphasized.
