UN Security Council holds discussion

On October 18, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, as well as representatives of UN member states and field specialists of non-governmental organizations participated in an open discussion on “Women, Peace and Security” organized by the UN Security Council.

Among the speakers was RA Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Karen Nazaryan, who welcomed the Resolution adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council that day, calling on the provision of women’s participation in peace-making processes. Ambassador Nazaryan mentioned that he attaches importance to the discussion on this topic since Armenia received a large number of women refugees as a result of the imposed war and aggression. The Ambassador added that the deprivations and consequences of the conflict are divided unequally among women and girls and that they need to be guaranteed a role in the negotiations for peace.

The delegations participating in the discussion also touched upon the rule of law and transitional justice in situations caused by conflicts in the context of the advancement of women, reports the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”.
