Garo Paylan addresses Internal Affairs Minister in relation to seizure of Istanbul-Armenian journalist’s passport

Member of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Democratic Party of Nations (HDP), Istanbul-Armenian MP Garo Paylan has sent an appeal to Minister of Internal Affairs Efkan Alay in relation to the ungrounded seizure of Istanbul-Armenian journalist Haiko Baghdad’s passport. According to the Turkish Birgun news website, police officers seized Haiko Baghdad’s passport at Istanbul Ataturk Airport upon Baghdad’s return to Istanbul.
It is stated that the police officers didn’t present any grounds for the seizure and simply stated that the journalist would know in a couple of days.
In relation to this, Garo Paylan has asked the Minister of Internal Affairs to give clarifications regarding the following questions:
- On what ground are journalists’ passports seized and what is the legal procedure for that?
- Who are the people whose passports have been seized or will be seized after the July 15 military coup attempt?
- Has any investigation been launched into the journalists whose passports have been seized?
