Putin: “Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been inherited from the Soviet past”

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been inherited from the Soviet past. This is what President of Russia Vladimir Putin declared during a meeting with is Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Baku today.
“I know this is a thorny issue for both Azerbaijan and Armenia. We will strive to make sure that Armenia and Azerbaijan find a compromise solution acceptable for both sides so that there won’t be winners, the nations of both countries win and the two countries feel that they have solved this intricate problem in the interests of the current and future generations,” the press service of the Kremlin cited Vladimir Putin’s words.
Touching upon Russian-Azerbaijani relations, Putin agreed with Aliyev that those relations have turned into a strategic partnership. “The fact that our relations are diversified is very important. They are growing in all directions,” Putin said, as reported armradio.am.
Putin stated that there are 600 Russian companies operating in Azerbaijan and that there are up to $1.4 billion dollars in direct investments. The President of Russia considers not only energetic projects, but also automobile construction and high technologies perspective. He also attached importance to the cooperation between the two countries in the Caspian Sea, including their military cooperation.
