We need a generation that can live in a rapidly changing world-Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan participated in the opening of the regional conference of Ministers of Education of the countries that are members of the EU Eastern Partnership and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, which is being held in Yerevan on 17-18 October. The conference will discuss the development of the territory of higher education in Europe.
Greeting the gathered, the Prime Minister mentioned that the problem on the agenda is current, is in the focus of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and is a topic of day-to-day discussions.
“Serious changes are taking place in the world today, and all governments are trying to make the right decisions when choosing their strategies. During the summer Davos held in China this year, the heads of governments of different countries were discussing the current challenges facing the world and the best way to respond to those challenges. The participants of the forum agreed that the best way to respond to those challenges is through educational reforms. We need a generation that can live in a rapidly changing world where the main feature is the fast pace of changes and the increase in the specific weight of uncertainty,” Tigran Sargsyan said.
According to the Prime Minister, the first thing that the young generation must have is the ability to live in a rapidly changing world, meaning that the youth must be provided with new tools for thinking.
According to the head of government, the reforms taking place in the system of higher education must be viewed as a complete chain, starting from kindergarten, moving to school and university and ending with training programs since lifelong learning is the kind of learning in the modern world. “If you have received a higher education, that doesn’t mean that you are ready to resist the challenges today. You always have to gain more knowledge. At the same time, it’s clear that universities lie at the core of today’s society, and there have to be infrastructures to provide people with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in industry,” Tigran Sargsyan mentioned as he addressed the students attending the conference.
The Prime Minister voiced hope that this conference would remind the answers to questions of how to implement such programs and achieve success.
The conference is organized within the framework of the Armenian chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
The event has brought together RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Trayan Hristea, Head of the CoE Department of Education Shur Bergen and other experts of the field of education from different countries across Europe.
