Mobile puppet theater for children in Artsakh’s bordering regions

The Puppet Art Figures of Artsakh cultural non-governmental organization is carrying out the “From Hayk Nahapet to Shushi” Program in a number of settlements of the Artsakh Republic, as reported the Youth Foundation of Armenia.

Head of the non-governmental organization Hayk Papyan stated that the organization would be organizing the presentation of Yervand Manaryan’s puppet show entitled “Hayk and Bel”. The sketches and puppets are being prepared. Children are also engaged in the preparations. Within the scope of the program, the Puppet Art Figures of Artsakh cultural NGO and the Center for Culture and Youth of Shushi have organized an exhibition/contest devoted to the Armenian legend of Hayk and Bel. Professional painters hold master classes and discover the hidden skills of children, who will witness the process of putting on a play.

The organizers say the performance will be an interactive one. The children will discuss the play and the topic and will actively participate in the performance, presenting episodes that start from the battle of Hayk and end with the great victories of the Armenians of Shushi. The participation of schoolchildren in the performance will make it easier for them to understand the material.

The performances of the play “Hayk and Bel” will begin in September. Nearly 7,500 children of Shushi, Martakert, Karvatchar, Hadrut, Martuni, Askeran and Talish will have watched the play by the end of this year.

Hayk Papyan notes that it is very important to implement this program through a mobile children’s theater in the bordering regions of Artsakh. The program is cognitive and rehabilitative and also provides the opportunity to become familiar with the performing arts. In the course of four months, the NGO plans on organizing 25 performances.

The Puppet Art Figures of Artsakh NGO is carrying out the “From Hayk Nahapet to Shushi” Program with the grant provided by the Staff of the President of the Republic of Armenia and through a contest declared by the Youth Foundation of Armenia.
