“Sasuntsi Davit” opera to be premiered in Shoushi

“Sasuntsi Davit” Opera will be premiered on September 1 in Shoushi, then in September 7-8 in Yerevan, at Alexander Spendaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre, Director of the National Academic Theatre Andranik Arzumanyan informed, adding that “Sasuntsi Davit” Opera will open the 83th theatrical season.
Arzumanyan informed the opera, created by Haro Stepanyan (1897-1966), has never performed before and will be included in the list of performances of the theatre.
Arzumanyan next informed that “Tosca” opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini and “Masquerade” ballet premieres will be staged by the end of the year.
Reflecting on the 82th theatrical season, Arzumanyan stressed 80-90 percent of the scheduled events were completed, including “Norma” and “Carmen” opera premiers.
“We had worked out ambitious plans with the late Gegham Grigoryan. Some of them were realized. The plans which we couldn’t realize are to be implemented in the future,” noted he.
To remind, Art Director of the Opera Theatre Gegham Grigoryan passed away on March 23 at the age of 65.
To Arzumanyan words, they drafted a youth program of cooperation with Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. “The program will allow to get familiarized with best young singers and engage them in theatrical art. In the future they will work in the theatre. In the scope of the cooperation we plan to stage Evgeni Onegin Opera,” Arzumanyan concluded.
