Shant Kantaharian: “The motto of the visit of the Pope is of strategic significance for Armenia”

In an interview with Hayern Aysor, editor-in-chief of Lebanon’s Aztag Daily Shahan Kantaharian said the following as he commented on the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Armenia:

“We have yet to touch upon the political motive behind the visit of Pope Francis to Armenia, taking into consideration the use of Mount Ararat as a symbol, the release of pigeons from Khor Virap Monastery towards Ararat and especially the messages for reconciliation.

For the time being, I can talk about the high level of organization of the reception in Armenia. I think the most interesting observation is that the motto of the visit (“Visit to the First Christian Nation”) has a very deep meaning and is, in some sense, of strategic significance. I am certain that the visit of the Pope will spark tremendous interest in Armenia and will, why not, foster spiritual tourism in the Republic of Armenia.”
