Iftari lunch to be served during Ramadan at Armenian church in Turkey

An iftari (Lent) lunch was served at the 17th century Saint Gevorg Armenian Church in Çanakkale (Dardanelle). The Turkish Milliyet’s website reports that the event was organized by the “March 18 University” Sufi community of Çanakkale to which the church currently pertains.

According to ermenihaber.am, the Sufi community’s academic advisor, Professor Halit Kushku informed that the church would be serving itari lunch and would be hosting about 10,000 people throughout Ramadan (holy month). The Sufi culture and traditions will be presented during the free luncheon.

There was a time when the 17th century Armenian church had turned into a military storage and was later used as a museum of ethnography and a classroom of a cultural center. Three years ago, the building of the church was finally allocated to the Sufi community of the above mentioned university.
