Today is International Children’s Defense Day

Today is International Children’s Defense Day. It was established during the international conference convened for children’s defense in Geneva in 1925.
In 1949, the Women’s International Democratic Federation adopted a decision on children’s defense day. The United Nations, giving consent to this initiative, declared the issue of defending the lives and health of children one of its priority directions of activity. The first time June 1st was celebrated as International Children’s Defense Day was in 1950.
Several international documents on children’s defense have been signed, including the 1959 Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Armenia ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1992 and passed the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On the rights of the child” in 1996.
