German professor certain that Armenian Genocide Resolution will pass and Turkey can’t have an influence

“The Germans already acknowledge the fact that the Armenian Genocide needs to be recognized. The German government has tried to be moderate due to Germany’s relations with Turkey. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany has already urged not to offend Turkey. I regret the fact that the country’s foreign interests come into play when it comes to such issues,” said Professor Otto Luchterhandt from the University of Hamburg as he addressed the German Bundestag’s discussion on the Armenian Genocide Resolution during an interview on “Yerkri Hartse” television program, according to Panorama.am.

When asked if the Turkish lobby could hinder the adoption of the resolution, the professor replied: “I am certain that the resolution will be adopted and that Turkey can’t have an influence on that.”

Touching upon the four-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan, Luchterhandt said the following: “Azerbaijan’s blitzkrieg was illegitimate since the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is a de facto state, and de facto states are legally protected. That is why the Armenian party of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic had the right to lead this war for self-defense, pursuant to Article 51 of the UN Charter. This makes Germany face a huge responsibility. Germany has to take action to maintain the 1994 ceasefire agreement. People shouldn’t constantly die because of snipers.”
