On the morning of 21 May, under the direction of Sacristan of the Holy See, His Eminence, Archbishop Sevan Gharibian, the congregates and Armenians of Jerusalem made a pilgrimage to the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem where, in 2015, 100 and more olive trees were planted on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and where the area was named Remembrance Park, as reported the Saint Hakobyants Congregation of Jerusalem, according to Hayern Aysor.

Afterwards, His Eminence, Archbishop Sevan Gharibian revealed a colophon that had been placed on this occasion and read as follows: “This remembrance park was established on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, 24 January 2015”.

After the unveiling of the colophon, His Holiness conveyed his welcoming remarks to the gathered and granted certificates of appreciation of the RA Ministry of Diaspora to the members of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Jerusalem Regional Committee. Special certificates were also granted to all the attendees, stating that they participated in the planting of trees in the Remembrance Park and presenting details about the location of the given tree that was planted.

At the end of the pilgrimage, pieces of sacrificed lamb were handed to the attendees. This pilgrimage was the first since the establishment of the Remembrance Park and will become an annual event. With the consent and under the order of His Holiness, the day of the pilgrimage has already been recorded in the calendar of the Holy See.
