On April 26, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received France-based opera singer Adam Barro (Mourad Amirkhanian).
In the wake of the earthquake that struck Gyumri on 7 December 1988, 13-year-old Adam Barro lost his parents and was left under the care of his grandmother. Adam fulfilled his mother’s dream and chose the path to become an opera singer. He received his higher education at Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory and graduated with honors. In 2000, Mourad settled in France with the goal to grow as an opera singer.
The RA Minister of Diaspora greeted the singer and praised him for the difficult road that he had taken. The Minister addressed the participants of the meeting and said the following: “I am pleased with the fact that, by coordinating the Assistance of French National Organizations in Armenia during the years following the earthquake, I was able to make my small contribution to Mourad’s first visit to France, which went on to become the singer’s destiny as he pursued his singing career in France.” The Minister added that Adam has always maintained his ties with the Homeland, especially with Gyumri and is currently in Armenia to participate in the 8th “Veratsnund” (Renaissance) International Music Competition-Festival. Adam Barro also showed active participation in the protests, marches and demonstrations against the military aggression that Azerbaijan unleashed on 2-6 April.
Attaching importance to Adam Barro’s efforts aimed at disseminating Armenian arts abroad, his mastery and performance as an opera singer and his activities for the development of the Armenia-Diaspora partnership, Minister Hranush Hakobyan awarded him with the Komitas Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
Deputy Director of the National Institute of Education Anahit Bakhshyan, French-Armenian benefactor Raymond Yezeguelian, representative of Noyan Tapan newspaper Nona Petrosyan and others praised the singer in their speeches.
Expressing gratitude to the RA Ministry of Diaspora and to Minister Hranush Hakobyan for appreciating his art, Adam Barro stated the following: “Let me be worthy of this medal and let me keep the good name of Komitas in foreign countries with my performances.”
At the end, Adam Barro performed one of the songs of Komitas.
