The Armenian Genocide is a part of the history of the Armenian people. However, it is the pain of not only the Armenian people, but also all mankind.
This is what world famous Hollywood actor George Clooney said during the 2nd “Against the Crime of Genocide” Global Forum. “We see that there is quite a long struggle to reach the point where things can be called by their names. We see that steps are being taken to view the killings of the Armenians as genocide, but those steps are being taken more slowly, and the struggle is taking longer than it should,” Clooney stated, as reported Artsakhpress.
Clooney stressed that it is impossible to deny what happened and that what happened to the Armenians in 1915 is genocide. You know, after the Holocaust, we kept hearing the phrase ?never again’, but Holocaust was followed by the Rwandan, Cambodian, Bosnian and Darfur genocides,” Clooney said.
When the moderator of the session asked Clooney what had made him want to help the victims of the Darfur genocide, Clooney stressed that he grew up in the USA at a time when there were serious movements and developments for the protection of human rights. “Seeing all this, you simply can’t ignore and turn your back. I must say that glory is overwhelming when cameramen constantly follow you, but when I read articles about the events taking place in Darfur, I decided that cameras not only need to follow me, but also need to help us speak out about what is taking place,” he stated.
Clooney was also pleased to note that he was visiting Armenia for the first time and was very happy to be participating in the 2nd “Against the Crime of Genocide” Global Forum. “I am very happy and proud to be here and to participate in this wonderful event,” Clooney concluded.
