In a rapid manner that is unprecedented in Turkey, the 10th Court of Appeals of Turkey has ruled to annul the return of the land parcel seized from the Surp Prkich (Holy Savior) Armenian Hospital of Istanbul.
As reported Istanbul’s Armenian Agos Weekly, on 22 January 2014, the 42,259 square meter area located in front of the hospital and seized by the government in 1974 was officially registered in the balance of the Surp Prkich Armenian Hospital’s fund. However, the Municipality of Zeytinburnu, in the territory of which the land parcel is located, had appealed the decision in an administrative court and had received a negative response. Afterwards, the Municipality of Zeytinburnu appealed the ruling of the administrative court to the 10th Court of Appeals, and the latter, in a rapid manner that is unprecedented for Turkey, has annulled the ruling of the administrative court and has ruled to leave the Armenian land parcel in the balance of the Municipality of Zeytinburnu.
After this ruling, co-chair of the fund of the Surp Prkich Armenian Hospital Herman Balian informed that the hospital has already appealed to the Supreme Court to annul the ruling of the 10th Court of Appeals.
