German Bundestag to discuss Armenian Genocide Resolution on 2 June

The German Bundestag will discuss the draft Armenian Genocide Resolution on 2 June. This is what Henriet Reitz, political advisor to co-chair of the Green Party of Germany Cem Özdemir, told “Armenpress”.

“This will be the joint initiative of the parliamentary factions of the Christian-Democratic Union/Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social-Democratic Party (SPD),” Reiz informed.

Earlier, German presses, citing head of the “Christian-Democratic Union/Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU) faction Michel Grosse- Brömer, stated that the Bundestag would probably discuss the Armenian Genocide Resolution on 2 June.

The heated discussions on adoption by the Bundestag of the Armenian Genocide Resolution took place on 25 February 2016, but they didn’t lead to a vote. After the mutually exclusive positions and evaluations of the ruling coalition and the representatives of the Alliance 90/Green Party having initiated the adoption of the resolution, it was decided to call back the Resolution for further modifications. In 2005, the German Bundestag adopted a resolution on the massive annihilation, ethnic cleansing and exile of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, but the term ?genocide’ had not been stated therein.
