French-Armenian doctors performing free surgeries in Stepanakert

The French-Armenian doctors having arrived in Artsakh on March 27, among which are urologists, plastic surgeons and orthopedists, are receiving patients, performing checkups and surgeries and providing consulting for free at the Republican Medical Center of Stepanakert until March 30.

In an interview with “Armenpress”, French-Armenian anesthesiologist reanimatologist, President of Hye Med Hovhannes Hekerian noted that he had been visiting Artsakh and collaborating with his colleagues for the past 27 years.

“We are not only continuing the collaboration that began years ago, but are also creating and implementing new programs, according to which we aspire to provide the medical services that our compatriots need. We have benefactors who help us carry out our programs. We are always in touch with doctors in Artsakh and aspire to engage leading French experts in the programs being carried out within that framework so that they visit, see Artsakh, the life in Artsakh and receive information about Artsakh, especially in the sense that it is peaceful here. This time I am visiting with six other doctors with the purpose of sharing the modern and leading experience in treatment and surgeries with our colleagues. In addition, we have already performed checkups for 150 patients, performed surgeries for 18 patients and will be performing surgeries for another 25-30,” Hovhannes Hekerian said, adding that the technical and professional potential of the local doctors fully meet European standards and allow the French-Armenian doctors to work properly.

“The experts in Artsakh are very talented. The only thing that needs to be done is to change certain Soviet approaches to the provision of medical services since there are treatments that are expense in that case, and the use of modern experience will make those services available,” the anesthesiologist/reanimatologist stated.

Touching upon the results of the checkups, the expert noted that the results show that, unlike European countries, diabetes is less common in Artsakh since the food is of higher quality and ecologically clean.

According to Hovhannes Hekerian, there are also diseases that would be more appropriate to prevent through a structural approach. The number of the common strokes and heart attacks would decrease, if smoking was strictly prohibited in public places.
