Boston to host conference devoted to the past and present of the Armenian Diaspora in the United States
ARMACAD would like to inform you about a conference that will be hosted on 17-18 November in Boston with the title “Armenian Diaspora in the United States: Communities, Politics and Culture”.
The conference is open to scholars, whose speeches will be devoted to the following topics:
Immigration of the Armenians and Integration in the United States
- Description of the immigration and integration of Armenians in the United States prior to 1924
- Settlement and integration of the Armenian Diaspora in the USA
- Image of the immigration and settlement of Armenians from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Iran and post-Soviet Armenia
Armenian Communities of America and their Identities
- Community life of Armenian immigrants, compatriotic unions prior to 1924
- The Armenian Apostolic, Protestant and Catholic Churches
- Relations between Armenian immigrants having arrived prior to 1924, after WWII and after 1965
- Armenian American presses, radio and television companies
Politics, Homeland and Diaspora
- Homeland, identity policy and political identity among Armenian Americans
- Armenian American political, charitable, youth and women’s organizations
- Armed struggle, political lobbying of the Armenians and campaigns for Armenian Genocide recognition in the USA
- Relations with non-Armenians
Education, Literature and the Arts
- Advancement of Armenian education and the Armenian identity in the United States
- Armenian American writers and literature
- Armenian American arts and artists
- Dance and music as an expression of Armenian identity
To apply for the conference, applicants need to submit an abstract (250) words and a short cover letter to the corresponding address by May 31, 2016.
