Catholicosate of Sis files new appeal in the Turkish Constitutional Court

The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, which appealed to the Constitutional Court of Turkey with the demand for the return of the Catholicosate of Sis in April 2015, has filed a new appeal with the demand for an examination of the claim.
The Catholicosate requests that the higher court observes the claim of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia as one of the priorities since the claim filed 10 months ago hasn’t been examined yet.
According to Haberturk.com, the second appeal was filed by lawyer of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia Cem Sofuoglu two weeks ago.
Lawyer Sofuoglu said this claim was simply aimed for the return of property and wasn’t aimed at discussing past events.
“If we win, we will appeal to the court of first instance so that the decision of the Constitutional Court is fulfilled. If our claim is rejected, we will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights,” Sofuoglu said, reports ermenihaber.am.
The lawyer also transmitted the address of Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia. The address reads as follows:
“We won’t be bargaining with Turkey over this topic. We don’t accept any other option for restoration, provision for our visits or compensation. We only want the properties that have belonged to us for over 800 years to be returned. If Turkey wants to establish close ties with the Armenian people, then this is the most appropriate moment.”
