Times: Russia and Turkey are on the road to a clash

In an article titled “Gates of Hell”, the famous British Times newspaper has covered Russian-Turkish relations in the context of the Syrian crisis. Turkey’s oppositional Cumhuriyet newspaper, citing the Times, writes that the article also talks about the fact that Turkey has been bombing the positions of Syria’s Kurdish forces for the past two days now.

According to the article, Syria is currently in a situation where the time has come for the East and the West to settle their scores. As reports ermenihaber.am, it is emphasized that though the purpose of all the parties is to fight against ISIS, they also shouldn’t let Syria split into two.

In relation to firing at Syria’s Kurdish forces on the part of Turkish forces, the newspaper writes that Ankara is very determined because it knows very well that Russia-backed Syrian Kurds want to establish their small state.

Aleppo is noted as the hottest spot for the clash of interests between Russia and Turkey in Syria. According to the article, Aleppo is where Russia and Turkey might confront each other. Russia’s air strikes, as well as the support of Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) to President of Syria Bashar Assad’s regime might contribute to that.

“Russia and Turkey are on the road to a clash. Russia will never accept the invasion of foreign soldiers in northern Syria. The clashes on the border with Turkey will become a reason for Syrian Kurds to make provocative attacks soon. In its turn, Turkey will address NATO with the request for help. In that situation, Russia and NATO will be face-to-face.”

Touching upon the Kurdish Labor Party (PKK), which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey, the British newspaper emphasizes that even if the Turkish authorities apply force against Kurdish soldiers, they won’t be able to settle the conflict.
