Linda and Vahan Margarian are among the Armenians who decided to escape to Turkey when DAHESH (ISIS) soldiers invaded their home in Baghdad, writes the journalist for Hurriyet Daily News, according to Hayern Aysor.
When the DAHESH soldiers invaded our home last year, my daughter, Nushig was 7 years old. From that moment, she stopped talking and still can’t speak today. Currently, we live in Yozghat. We have done everything possible to cure her, but our efforts are still in vain,” Linda says, adding: “We don’t have a future here. Our lives are uncertain. Our desire is to provide our children with a better life and in a place where they will be safe and sound.”
Linda also says it’s hard for them to follow their religion due to pressure from society. “We are faithful people, but we preach and pray at home. It’s very difficult.”
Linda’s husband was an electrician in Baghdad, but he faces difficulties in Yozghat. “My husband can only find temporary construction jobs. The others (Turkish nationals-ed.) receive up to 100 Turkish Lires a day, but we only receive 25 Lires a day. We can’t fight for our rights either.”
Selina Dogan, who is a deputy representing Turkey’s major oppositional People’s Republican Party (CHP) and is of Armenian descent, recently visited the Armenian families having taken shelter in Yozghat.
