Syria’s Kurds to open representative office in Moscow

Co-chair of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of Kurds of the Russian Federation Ferhat Patiyev has announced that Syrian Kurdistan is preparing to open a representative office in Moscow, writes ermenihaber.am.

Citing the Russian Interfax agency, the Turkish Sondakika.com writes that Partiyev has declared that the representative office will open its doors on February 10, 2016.

Patiyev mentioned that the decision on opening a representative office was taken by the 3 Kurdish cantons (territorial administrative unit-EH) proclaimed in Syria.

“Of course, there will also be representatives from the People’s Union Party (PYD) governing Syrian Kurdistan,” the Kurdish figure mentioned.

The PYD is the most influential political force among the Kurds of Syria. The Turkish authorities have described the PYD as a terrorist party several times and have accused it of working with the Kurdish Labor Party (PKK), which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey.

Patiyev has informed that, from the legal perspective, the representative office will have the status of a non-governmental organization under the subordination of the Ministry of Justice of Russia, but will be a de facto embassy.

The Kurdish official has also informed that the Autonomy also plans on opening representative offices in France and Germany.
