Turkish-Armenian MP welcomes Aras Ozbilis’s transfer to Beshiktash

Armenian deputy representing Turkey’s oppositional Kemalist Republican People’s Party Selina Dogan has welcomed the transfer of member of the Armenian national football team Aras Ozbilis to the Turkish Beshiktash football team.

As reports “Armenpress”, Selina Dogan wrote about this on her Facebook page: “I was very happy to learn about the transfer of Armenian football player Aras Ozbilis to Beshiktash. Unquestionably, sport and sport competitions play an important role in helping societies get to know each other better, understand each other and strengthen their fraternal ties. I think it’s important that Aras Ozbilis will be playing for Turkey from the perspective of the strengthening of fraternal ties between the Turkish and Armenian societies,” Dogan mentioned.

Dogan regretted to say that there is racist propaganda against Ozbilis due to his ethnic belonging on social networks. “Nobody should forget that non-Muslim nations introduced football on these lands. They were the ones who created the first teams,” said the first Turkish-Armenian woman deputy in the Turkish Mejlis.

She also wished Beshiktash and Ozbilis success and said: “Dear Aras, welcome to your home, the land on which you were born.”
