Dink family appeals Turkish prosecution’s decision
Hakan Bakirjioglu, one of the attorneys of the family of famous Istanbul-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, has appealed the decision of the Turkish prosecutors to end criminal prosecution against 24 state officials. Turkey’s Milliyet reports that the appeal has been submitted to the general prosecutor’s office of Istanbul, writes ermenihaber.am.
Let us mention that Turkey’s prosecution had taken a decision on terminating criminal prosecution against 43 state officials charged with abuse of office in relation to the murder of founding editor-in-chief of Agos Weekly Hrant Dink.
Among these 24 state officials are one of the officials of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Ozel Yilmaz and Ergun Gyungyor, who was an assistant to the governor of Istanbul during the murder of the Istanbul-Armenian journalist. According to the Dinks’ attorney, Yilmaz is responsible for not preventing Dink’s murder, and Gyungyor and then governor of Istanbul Muammer Gyuler are responsible for not ensuring Dink’s safety.
The decision of the Turkish prosecution to end criminal prosecution has been appealed for the following 24 state officials: Ozel Yilmaz, Ergun Gyungyor, Selim Kutkan, Bulent Kyoksal, Ibrahim Pala, Ibrahim Shevki Eldivan, Volkan Altunbulak, Bahadir Tekin, Ozjan Ozkan, Engin Akchichek, Izzet Akdag, Seyfi Inan, Davut Atesh, Murad Chakan, Ufuk Kaba, Yalchin Kara, Veli Kyuchyuk, Kemal Kerinchsiz, Oktay Yildirim, Gyurkan Kushchu, Oktay Dashtan, Tolgay Sivrikaya, Salih Jihan and Nezat Mete.
Let us remind that Hrant Dink was killed in front of the editorial office of Agos Weekly in Istanbul on January 19, 2007. This murder case is one of the most disputed cases in Turkey, and the trial has been going on for the past nine years.
