Dink’s assassin wants to testify

Ogyun Samast, who has been sentenced to 22 years and 10 months for murdering editor-in-chief of Istanbul’s Agos Weekly Hrant Dink, has appealed to court with the request to testify.

According to Turkey’s Haberler, Samast has appealed to Istanbul’s 5th Criminal Court for Heavy Crimes with the request to testify and has demanded that the court transfer him from Kojaeli’s prison to a prison in Istanbul for giving a testimony.

As reports ermenihaber.am, the Dinks’ attorney, Hakan Bakircioglu affirmed that the  convict had submitted a similar appeal to the Turkish court on 2 November and mentioned that the case of Ogyun Samat under the charge of being a member of a criminal organization has been attached to the trial being held in the 5th Criminal Court for Heavy Crimes of Istanbul. Thus, Ogyun Samast wanted to participate in the trial and testify.

Let us remind that Hrant Dink was murdered in front of the editorial office of Agos Weekly of Istanbul on January 19, 2007. The trial over his murder is one of the most controversial cases in Turkey that has been going on for the past nine years.
