Released life-termer Soghomon Kocharyan dies

Life-termer Soghomon Kocharyan died on the night of November 8.

Journalist Zaruhi Mejmulyan, who dealt with Soghomon Kocharyan’s case, told Tert.am that Soghomon’s mother phoned her a 2:00am and told that her son had died.

Soghomon Kocharyan was sentenced to life 2o years ago. On October 2, minor court of Yerevan’s Nor-Nork and Kentron communities ruled Soghomon Kocharyan could serve the rest of his sentence out of prison.

Soghomon Kocharyan was a disabled veteran of the Nagorno-Karabakh war. In 1995, he was sentenced to death penalty for killing Iranian citizen Phur Mirza Beki. In 2003, the Armenian president signed a degree substituting life imprisonment for the death penalty.
