Djorkaeff: “For all us Diaspora Armenians, Yerevan is truly familiar and irreplaceable”

Former midfielder for the French national football team, world and European champion Youri Djorkaef, Deputy Mayor of the French city of Dessin Denny Djorkaeff, President of the Athletics Federation of Latvia Guntis Zalitis and Vice-President of the Athletics Federation of Greece Dimakos Panagiotis, who are in Yerevan to attend the Yerevan RUNARM 2015 international half marathon, had a meeting with Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan.
The mayor talked about the activities aimed at reinforcing sport life in the capital with the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle, reports the Department of Information and Public Relations of Yerevan Municipality.
“In addition to the implementation of activities aimed at renovating sport centers and providing new sports equipment, within the scope of the complex renovation project, we are also furbishing yards with sports equipment and small football fields, and I am certain that this plays an important role in the upbringing of a generation of healthy and sport-loving Armenians. It’s nice to see that athletes of Yerevan have especially been making great progress in different sports over the past couple of years, including during state and pan-Armenian games, winning first place according to the scores of teams,” Taron Margaryan emphasized.
Expressing gratitude for the cordial reception, on behalf of all the participants of the half marathon, Robert Emmiyan expressed appreciation of Mayor Taron Margaryan for helping conduct the first international half marathon in Yerevan.
In his turn, world famous Armenian football player Youri Djorkaeff noted that the mayor’s views on the development of sports are in essence the main guarantees that will definitely help promote a healthy lifestyle.
“For all us Diaspora Armenians, Mr. Mayor, be rest assured that Yerevan is truly familiar and irreplaceable. I’m very pleased with the fact that, alongside helping the city advance, you also attach special importance to the role of sports in the upbringing of a healthy generation. I fully hope this international half marathon also contributes to that and the citizens love the event,” Youri Djorkaeff.
