MEP urges to bring to justice those responsible for murder of Armenian women in Tavush

Member of European Parliament Fabio Massimo Castaldo condemned the new cases of cease fire regime violation by Azerbaijan, noting with regret that this is not the first time that they encounter such activities by Azerbaijan.

Castaldo emphasized in an interview with the reporter of “Armenpress” in Brussels that the last case of violence harms the peaceful settlement of the conflict and the rapprochement of the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan. “We are closely monitoring the situation as we are afraid of the resumption of violence. We hope that diplomacy will give the two states an opportunity to clarify their responsibilities in connection with the cases of similar attacks. Of course, we have asked the Azerbaijani Government to refrain from further violence, particularly directed at civilians, which we witnessed today. There are three victims and it is vandalism, violence that can never be approved”, the member of the European Parliament emphasized. He hoped that the European Union will act as a mediator, fostering resumption of the peaceful conflict settlement process.

“Unfortunately, the European Commission is more concerned over issues of energy policies than protection of human rights and values. I hope that this time the European Institutions will be ready to condemn these unfortunate incidents: death of three women”, Castaldo stressed. He also hoped that Azerbaijani authorities will be pressured to clarify the reality. “Those who are responsible must be arrested and if it turns out that they are guilty, must be punished. Such violent vandalism cannot remain unpunished”, the MEP concluded.
