The U.S. has recognized the Armenian Genocide, we need to demand justice and restitution: Harut Sassounian

Editor-in-chief of California Courier newspaper Harut Sassounian is discontent with the fact that the United States is presented as a country that has partially recognized the Armenian Genocide among the list of countries having recognized the Armenian Genocide. The countries having recognized the Armenian Genocide are colored in dark purple on the map of countries having recognized it, but that’s not the color for the USA.
According to Artsakhpress, this is what Harut Sassounian declared during the discussion on the program devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the sum-up of results of the expert conference entitled “I Remember and Demand”, after which he presented precise dates and asserted his words during a press conference.
“The United States has recognized the Armenian Genocide not only at the state level, but also at the level of Congress and the government,” he said.
Harut Sassounian noted that Armenia doesn’t need Obama’s statement. “If Obama has to say the word ?genocide’ just for saying it and to keep his word, he won’t be doing us a favor with that. We have already achieved recognition from President Reagan, and if Obama doesn’t recognize it, then shame on him,” he said.
Harut Sassounian noted that the United States is forced to have close relations with Turkey due to its state policy, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t recognized the Armenian Genocide. “With such a policy, we’re hurting our cause. We need to tell the world that the U.S. has recognized the Armenian Genocide and move forward. We need to demand justice, restitution and state our territorial claims,” he said.
