We went to Baku and came back with our heads held up high

We accomplished our goal. Our main goal was to be safe and participate, hold the Armenian national flag high in the air during the opening ceremony, raise the Armenian national flag in Baku, score a medal and return with honor. This is what head of the Armenia’s Olympic delegation Hrachya Rostomyan said as he summed up the first European Games in Baku during a press conference, writes armradio. The delegation’s press secretary Karen Giloyan also didn’t see any intentions against the Armenian delegates. Giloyan only said the Armenian delegation was in everyone’s focus in Baku and that all the presses wanted to talk to the Armenian delegates the most, even Azerbaijani presses.

“We went to Baku and returned with our heads held up high. Today, Armenia has a big reputation and a large army of supporters because it participated in the Games in Baku,” head of Armenia’s Olympic delegation Hrachya Rostomyan mentioned today as he touched upon Armenia’s participation in the first European Games in Baku.

The head of the delegation said none of the members was pleased with the trip to Baku, but mentioned that Armenia’s participation was very important and even a matter of honor.

“The only dispute that we had in Baku was a dispute during the boxing matches,” Hrachya Rostomyan noted, adding that the referees were making not only the Armenian delegates, but also the others angry. “The problem was the new rating mechanism that I still don’t understand. But overall, we didn’t see any steps that were taken intentionally against the Armenian delegation,” the head of the delegation said.

The Armenian delegation’s press secretary Karen Giloyan was also very impressed with the Games.

Let us remind that Armenia sent 25 athletes to compete in 6 categories at the 2015 European Games, of which only Greco-Roman-style wrestler Mihran Harutyunyan (66 kg) managed to score a silver medal. Was this predictable, or was the Armenian delegation expecting more? In response, Hrachya Rostomyan said the delegation was expecting more, but the main goal was to ensure the athletes’ safety and to have them return with honor.
