Premiere of “Arshile Gorky” ballet in Yerevan

The premiere of the “Arshile Gorky” ballet will be held at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet on July 9 and 10, writes armradio. The creators are the members of the Powerful Emotions Dance Ensemble established by the solo dancers of the Swedish Royal Ballet and the Bavarian State Ballet, as well as members of the Barekamutyun State Dance Ensemble of Armenia. The premiere of the “Arshile Gorky” ballet is being held as part of the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The organizers gave today a press conference prior to the premiere.
The “Powerful Emotions” Dance Ensemble is the first professional Armenian mobile ballet group that was created by a group of leading dancers of various professional European ballet groups. “Working in Europe for many years and gaining great experience, we had dreamed of paying the homeland back some way. The idea of the “Arshile Gorky” ballet was born in 2006, and we finally have the chance to present it in Armenia,” says artistic director of the “Powerful Emotions” Dance Ensemble and key solo dancer of the Swedish Royal Ballet Arsen Mehrabyan.
The letters of 20th century Armenian American impressionist Arshile Gorky describing and narrating the brilliant artist’s tragic life and losses lie at the core of the libretto of the one-act ballet.
They were losses that left an indelible trace on the painter’s entire life and are portrayed in his paintings. “It was very interesting to participate in a program that has great content. It’s a great human and national tragedy in which Arshile Gorky’s image is made complete,” says soloist of Geneva’s Grand Theater Angela Li Rebelo.
At the journalists’ request, our compatriots, who have achieved great heights in their careers abroad, touched upon Armenian ballet and the problems. “If an artist has hundreds of other problems to solve other than the problems at work, then that will definitely have an impact on his art and won’t let him move forward,” Arsen Mehrabyan said. Solo dancer of the Bavarian State Ballet Tigran Mikayelyan shared Mehrabyan’s view.
