10 forests symbolizing villages of Western Armenia to be established in northern Armenia
Ten forests will be established in Armenia’s Shirak, Lori and Kotayk Provinces to symbolize the villages of Western Armenia, the residents of which were oppressed during the Armenian Genocide, reports EcoLur.
The forests are being established as part of ATP’s Living Century Program. “We urge all Armenians around the world to sponsor this initiative by planting trees in honor of their relatives and ancestors. The Living Century Program provides the opportunity to establish new Adana, Kharberd, Marash and other forests…We plan on planting nearly 300,000 trees until the end of this year, including another 250,000 trees that will serve for the goal of forest restoration, says ATP Executive Director Jeanmarie Papelian.
The Living Century Program has a website (www.livingcentury.org) where visitors can learn about the program and the historic Armenian communities, as well as made donations in order to plant more trees in these forests.
