Taner Akcam on the decision on destroying Istanbul’s Armenian orphanage

Famous Turkish historian Taner Akcam has posted a comment on his Facebook page in regard to Turkey’s decision on destroying the Armenian orphanage of Istanbul.
“Several people are debating and discussing “whether a genocide took place in 1915 or not…” You are living in a country that even “plants” luxurious villas by destroying the properties of Armenians in normal conditions. What do you think happened in 1915 in this country that is imprudent to this extent?” wrote Akcam, mentioning that after that, the Turkish government still declares that nobody treats the Armenians the way the Turks do.
Let us remind that the demolition of the Armenian orphanage located in Istanbul’s Tuzla District was launched yesterday.
There was a time when 1,500 Armenian orphans lived in that orphanage, including the late journalist Hrant Dink and his wife, Raquel Dink.
Due to the petitions of some opposition members, the demolition has been temporarily terminated.
