Another order from Azerbaijan failed during pan-European forum in Yerevan
Another order from Azerbaijan failed during the pan-European forum “European Standards of Rule of Law and the Limits of Authorities’ in CoE Member States” held in the RA National Assembly. This is what Deputy of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction David Harutyunyan said in an interview with “ArmenPress” as he touched upon the speech on “Preserving and Protecting Human Rights in the Territory of “Frozen Conflicts” by lawyer of the Parliament of Moldova Aurelia Grigoriu. “It’s clear that that was another order from Azerbaijan. We’re aware of many texts with such content and know them by heart,” said David Harutyunyan. In her speech, the Moldovan parliamentary lawyer made a statement that didn’t correspond to the reality at all, stating that “Armenia has seized 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territories and the Armenians perpetrated the genocide of Khojalu” and calling Armenia an “aggressor”.
In her special speech, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hermine Naghdalyan urged not to use the pan-European forum and the podium of the National Assembly of Armenia to spread false information. “The fact that some lawyers are fulfilling orders in this hall is unacceptable,” said Naghdalyan and suggested that those making phony speeches so that the clients will express their gratitude to them. “There is no need to discuss false statements made during a scientific conference. Discussions on such matters are held by experts who are aware of the topic, but making statements on genocides committed in different parts is very similar to the typical statements made by our neighboring countries,” said the NA Deputy Speaker.
Grigoriu tried to justify himself, saying that he had meant to say that all conflicts need to be solved peacefully. The Ombudsman of Lithuania, in his turn, suggested that the Moldovan representative speak “about the frozen conflict in Moldova, and not touch upon the history of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”.
On 3-4 July, the National Assembly held a pan-European forum entitled “European Standards of Rule of Law and the Limits of Authorities in CoE Member States” on the sidelines of Armenia’s chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The event brought together nearly 80 representatives of 32 countries and international organizations.
