On April 18, protesters held a protest in front of the Turkish Embassy in Berlin, condemning Turkey’s policy of denial and urging Germany to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The event was organized by the Genocide Recognition Task Force, writes ermenihaber.am.

“Every year, we gather here to condemn and commemorate the Armenian Genocide. This year we are condemning Germany’s century of silence and Turkey’s century of denial,” the organization’s president Tessa Hoffman said.

The protest had brought together not only German-Armenians, but also Germans, Kurds, Italians and Turks. One of the protesters of Turkish descent, Erkin Abla, mentioned that Turkey must confront its past, recognize the Armenian Genocide and contribute to the country’s democratization.

“Some of my nationalist friends are against me participating in such events. Sometimes they even say I’m betraying the nation. But since I don’t consider myself a traitor, I don’t mind what they say,” Ekin Abla said.

The protesters moved from the embassy to Angela Merkel’s residence where they submitted a letter urging Armenian Genocide recognition to the German Chancellor’s representative.
