Students and members of the academic council of Yerevan State University paid tribute to the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide by laying flowers and wreaths at the side of Araks River, armradio.am reports to Hayern Aysor. Seeing the lands of Western Armenia from the side of Araks River and washing their hands and faces in the river lit the fire for claims in their souls.

Araks River has seen much sorrow and suffering, but it conceals it with care within the sands. Sometimes the river brings it to the surface and then takes it back. Araks River is currently in the middle of the border of the land where the Armenians left their homes and properties during the genocide of the early 20th century. The river paved the way for them to save themselves, and now it is partially in captivity. The waters of the river were bloody during the Armenian Genocide. The Akhuryan and Araks Rivers cross near the bordering Yervandashat village of Armavir Province and within the border and go in the same direction.

The students and deans of faculties of Yerevan State University had gathered there to pay tribute to the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire, beginning in the late 1800s and continuing until the early 20th century. The students laid a wreath and flowers in the river, commemorating those who died in the river.

Rector of Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan said the purpose of the University’s events for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was renaissance and reparation.

After seeing the lands of Western Armenia from the side of Araks River, all the students will feel wrath and will want to state their claims. This is also a way to guide the actions of the youth who are aware.

The students at the side of Araks River were already filled with wrath as they sang a song devoted to the battle between Talaat Pasha and Soghomon Tehleryan.
