U.S. Turkish lobby counterattacks Armenian lobby

The Armenian American community and organizations are taking more and more action ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in April, and Turkish-American organizations are trying to counterattack those actions, writes ermenihaber.am.

Turkey’s pro-government Sabah newspaper has presented several recent major events organized by the Armenian American community and has touched upon Turkey’s responses and the upcoming events.

The newspaper draws readers’ attention to the Armenian organizations’ Divest Turkey campaign through which UCLA-Berkeley cancelled the $74 mln dollar investment program for Turkey. The newspaper also mentions the Armenian American community’s efforts to suspend the plan for placing the statue of Ataturk in California, the events that are being held with the participation of famous Hollywood actor George Clooney and more.

As for Turkey’s responses, the newspaper mentions that the Action Alert campaign, which starts this week and is a response to the resolution devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial submitted by two legislators in the Legislature of the State of New Jersey.

Turkish-American organizations are calling on all Turkish-Americans to take action through social media ahead of April 24th. The Turks are raising awareness about the rally that the Turks will be holding in front of the Turkish Embassy in Washington on April 24th. The #24nisandadcdeyiz hashtag is being circulated for advocacy purposes.

The recent speech by U.S. Senator Bill Shuster in which he defended the view that supporting Armenian Genocide recognition goes against U.S. national interests, is also ascribed to the Turkish lobby. Former Congressman Dan Barton’s article in one of the local newspapers is also one of the Turkish lobby’s actions. In the article, the author examines the Armenian-Iranian rapprochement and says it goes against U.S. national interests.
