“Turkish society is sorry for the Armenian Cause, but…” Survey in Turkey

The Turkish Hurriyet has presented the results of a nationwide survey on “The Events of 1915” conducted by Turkey’s Center for Economic and Foreign Policy Research.

Let them say they’re sorry, but not apologize

Out of the surveyed, 24% said Armenians weren’t the only ones who were killed in 1915 and defended the view that people have to express pain for all the losses, 12% of people with similar views said they’re sorry for the Armenians killed in 1915, but don’t think there’s a need for apology.

Only 9%

Only 9% of the surveyed said they recognize the Armenian Genocide. Another 9% preferred to apologize without recognizing the genocide, and 21% of the surveyed believed that Turkey shouldn’t do anything about the Armenian Genocide at all.

Interestingly, 25% weren’t able to express a clear position on the issue and preferred the “I don’t have an answer” option. The newspaper reports that based on the results of previous surveys, there were 10% of people who would usually say they don’t have an answer.
