Group of NA Deputies arrived in Syria
Deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia Samvel Farmanyan, Arman Sahakyan, Naira Karapetyan, Tevan Poghsyan, Edmon Marukyan and Levon Martirosyan have arrived in Syria.
Upon their return to Armenia, they will present the situation at the National Assembly.
However, after the statements made in the National Assembly, secretary of the faction of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutiun Aghvan Vardanyan expressed his concern about the delegation sent to Syria, mentioning that even though he’s pleased with the fact that a group of delegates was sent to Syria, he wasn’t pleased with the fact that the delegates were only from one political party.
Vardanyan touched upon the fact that there were no oppositionist deputies.
“Thank God, there is more than one political party in Armenia’s Parliament, and it would be better to have delegates from other political factions. The political majority always talks about the importance of dialogue, but I don’t believe it’s right to ignore the other parties. Don’t get me wrong. We don’t have a problem since the Dashnaktsutiun is trying to protect the Armenians in that sector of Syria, but we don’t accept this working style,” said Aghvan Vardanyan.
Aztag Daily’s correspondent in Damascus told Aztag that Armenia’s deputies arrived in Beirut, traveled to Damascus and then headed toward Latakia.
The deputies were received by deputies of the Syrian parliament in Latakia, the representative of Latakia’s governor, Armenia’s Ambassador to Syria Arshak Poladyan and Armenia’s Consul General in Aleppo Karen Grigoryan. After the reception, the deputies headed toward the St. Mary Church in Latakia where they had a meeting with the spiritual leaders of Latakia and Kessab, as well as the Kessab-Armenians who have taken shelter in Latakia. During the meetings, the leader of the Syrian delegation informed that the Kessab-Armenians will soon return to their homes and will live in peace and that the victims will receive compensation.
Armenia’s delegates informed that the Republic of Armenia will do everything it can to support the Kessab-Armenians.
