President of House of Representatives of Cyprus pays tribute at Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex

The delegation led by President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris, who is on an official visit to Yerevan, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex along with Deputy Speaker of the RA National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov and Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI) Gevorg Vardanyan.

As reported the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute to Hayern Aysor, the guests laid a wreath at the monument and flowers near the eternal flame on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus and respected the memory of the Holy Martyrs with a moment of silence.

The members of the delegation led by Demetris Syllouris also visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute where they were introduced to the documents attesting the Armenian Genocide and viewed samples. President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris made the following note in the Register for Guests of Honor: “Once again, we saw the sufferings of the Armenian people in barbarity and hatred. We say never again.”

Cyprus is one of the first states to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide. It has adopted resolutions in 1975, 1982 and 1990 and is the first state to have raised the issue of the Armenian Genocide in the UN General Assembly. Cyprus also has a law criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide that was adopted on April 2, 2015.
